I love writing, but the writing process doesn’t always love me back. It’s a roller coaster of emotions that leaves me in my most vulnerable state. (Wo)Man vs. the written word. Has there every been a more tumultuous battle? Of course, there has. But when you’re embroiled in a deep back and forth with yourself over which details to nix to give your novel’s most pivotal scene more direction and thematic focus, it can feel like the end of the world.
All creative pursuits are worthwhile, but anything worthwhile was never easily earned. I’m two-thirds done with my own novel, and I feel like I have to flick away these same thoughts every single time I sit down to write.
